Recreation and Camping

Relax on our beaches, in our club house & at our campgrounds

Enjoy All That Presque Isle Harbor Association Has to Offer

With easy, daily access to activities and events in Alpena, Rogers City, Cheboygan, and Petoskey, it is ideally suited for persons whose employment or retirement situation would allow them to settle in a community that takes them away from the “hustle and bustle” of most urban areas. Presque Isle is truly a “diamond-in-the-rough” that can be found on the Huron shores of Northeast Lower Michigan. The association is open to all parties who own properties within the development.

Association amenities include a clubhouse with indoor pool, exercise equipment, activity room, game spaces, and meeting rooms; two beach houses, three beaches (one with boat rental), launching facilities on both Grand Lake and Lake Huron; a campground with full facilities, and a camper pavilion. There is a thriving community recreational and social program as well. For the summer and winter sports enthusiast, the Association has miles of hiking/snowmobile/cross country ski trails. Nearby, on State land, are many more miles of groomed and ungroomed ski and snowmobile trails.

The Clubhouse

Experience the many different activities and amenities our clubhouse has to offer! It includes an indoor pool and hot tub, exercise room, activity room and game space, meeting room, patio and common space. The clubhouse has a lounge area with a large screen TV, several tables with seating for 4-6, and a fireplace. WI-FI capability is available throughout the facility. The swimming pool (with an observation area) is open for lap swimming at 8AM M-F and closes at 9:30PM.

The exercise room opens at 8AM daily and includes weights, treadmills, airdyne bike, two universal strength machines, a stairstep and several other workout machines. Also located in the clubhouse is a game room (pool and foosball), and an activities hall for meetings, basketball, and volleyball. Near the activities hall is a full service kitchen. There are two other rooms which are used as meeting rooms for cards and general groups.

On the grounds of the clubhouse are a tennis court, shuffle board, swing set and two decks with barbecues. Several trails lead from the grounds into the green spaces surrounding it.

The association’s clubhouse is located at 6424 Kauffman Road and can be contacted at 989-595-2411. The clubhouse is open weekdays from 8AM – 10PM, and weekends from 10AM – 10PM. It is closed on Christmas Eve Day, Christmas, New Years Eve Day, and Easter. Click here for a complete list of PIHA Facility Rules

Crystal Point Launch and Hike Area

Crystal Point is a gem of the area. Comprising the whole southern point at the entrance to Presque Isle Harbor it includes a small pond within its green space. There are hiking trails which at times follow the sea wall of rocks piled up by earlier storms, and at times traverse both softwood and hardwood forests. These trails give access to many views of Lake Huron and take the walker close to the location of the wreck of the Albany and Albany point. Located at Crystal Point is a boat launch for small boats (although, when lake levels are low, an alternate ramp is located at the marina across from Crystal Point). In addition the association rents two mooring balls for vessels up to 45 feet which are accessible from the launch ramp. Many residents and friends watch the 4th of July fireworks from the beach near the launch ramp. There is a locked gate which limits vehicle access. Owners may purchase a key at the clubhouse.

Common Property/Green Space Trails

Throughout the development are miles of hiking/snowmobile/skiing trails which connect the large amount of green space which is set aside from building within the area. The map below shows the length of the various trails within the green space of the association. If you click on the map you can see a larger version of it.

In addition to the association’s green space trails, PIHA is just south of and contiguous to Thompson Harbor State Park with its miles of trails as well.

Explore Presque Isle

Located on the shores of Lake Huron in Northeastern Michigan, Presque Isle offers the only natural harbor on Lake Huron as well as two protected anchorages and a new Waterways marina. Wildlife abounds in Presque Isle, including deer, bear, fox, coyote, bald eagle, loon, raccoon, and a host of other small forest wildlife. Many rare and endangered plant species live among the normal plant life common to limestone bedrock. Fossils lay scattered over the Lake Huron shoreline. And the night sky is a striking sight that is seldom seen anywhere else in Michigan.
